working—and meeting—to integrate the vision into university decisionmaking

We’re currently planning for a working meeting on Friday, May 1st, from 12-2pm, in Nelson Hall East 106. We’re anticipating a diverse mix of faculty, students, staff, and administrators will participate.  All are welcome to attend; please send an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if you plan to join us.

Our focus, in that session, will be to brainstorm and propose university-wide strategies to advance aspects of this vision.  If all goes well, we’ll end the session having identified a few key strategic goals.  I emphasize “a few” because it’s my observation that many past planning efforts on this campus have foundered because by trying to address an issue comprehensively they end up with plans that are overwhelming and seemingly impossible to implement.  I’d much rather see us identify two or three vital goals that actually get traction than a dozen that gather dust on the shelf.

Over the summer, we’ll be asking members of the administration to review these goals and propose concrete steps for integrating them into university planning, budgeting and decision-making.  These proposals will then be vetted by the cabinet and the campus community during the fall semester.

We hope to see you Friday!
